Pre-Market Briefing for June 15, 2026
Today at a Glance
Prior-Day Recap
Last Friday, the U.S. market closed a quiet uptrend week on the back of the flashy debut of SpaceX, the largest IPO in history. The Dow rose 0.7%, the S&P 500 gained 0.5%, and the Nasdaq added 0.31%. SpaceX ($SPCX) closed at $161, well above its IPO price of $135, posting a 19% surge on day one. As hopes for a U.S.–Iran peace deal gained traction, international oil prices fell and the volatility index (VIX) slid to the 17 line, making for a week in which early-week fear quickly faded.
Current Market Mood
The pre-market mood today can be summed up in one word: relief rally. Over the weekend, news that the U.S. and Iran reached a ceasefire agreement ending roughly four months of war sent Nasdaq futures up more than 2% and S&P 500 futures up 1.3%, kicking things off with a strong start. On expectations that the Strait of Hormuz will reopen under the deal, international oil prices plunged nearly 5% to $80 per barrel, a three-month low. Japan's Nikkei surged 5.5%, Korea's Kospi jumped around 5%, and Europe's STOXX 600 hit a record high, as global risk appetite came alive all at once. That said, this week's biggest test of the rally will come on Wednesday with new Fed Chair Warsh's first Federal Reserve meeting.
Pre-Market News Roundup
Today's Events
Today is very light on earnings. There are no major-cap names reporting, and after the close, the only one on the calendar is dining and entertainment chain Dave & Buster's ($PLAY). The market's focus this week is not on individual earnings but on two macro events: the post-ceasefire rally and Wednesday's FOMC meeting.
Macro Schedule
Today, the U.S. has no major economic data releases capable of moving markets. This week's macro calendar is essentially concentrated in Wednesday's event.
The Federal Reserve holds its meeting on June 16–17 and will announce its rate decision at 3:00 AM KST on the 18th. The market puts the probability of a hold (3.75%) at 99.6%, but the real focus is that this is the first meeting chaired by new Chair Kevin Warsh. Against a backdrop of May CPI at 4.2% and PPI at 6.5%, the statement, the dot plot, and the tone of the new chair's press conference will determine whether rate-cut expectations are pushed back further and set the direction for the week. If a hawkish signal emerges, today's post-ceasefire rally could be unwound.
