Market Summary

Today's US stock market closed higher across all three major indexes as SpaceX's blockbuster market debut — the largest IPO in history — coincided with hopes for a US-Iran peace agreement. The Dow rose 0.7%, the S&P 500 gained 0.5%, and the Nasdaq added 0.31%, steadily extending the prior session's sharp rally. The volatility index (VIX) plunged more than 9% to the 17 line, signaling that market fear is dissipating quickly. SpaceX ($SPCX) closed at $161, well above its $135 IPO price, soaring 19% on its first day and instantly becoming the world's sixth-most-valuable company. Pakistan reported that the US and Iran had reached a peace agreement, pushing international oil prices to a three-month low. However, the Fear & Greed Index still remains in fear territory, showing that investor caution has not completely vanished.

Sector & Asset Trends

By sector, risk appetite continued, with clear rotation dynamics. Materials ($XLB +1.87%) and Financials ($XLF +1.37%) led the gains, while Utilities (+1.09%) and REITs (+0.98%) — which benefit from falling rates — also posted strong performance. The tech sector, which had surged the previous day, gained 0.87% and took a breather, while Healthcare and Communication Services edged slightly lower.

By asset, news of a US-Iran peace agreement removed the geopolitical premium, pushing international oil prices ($USO) down another 2.64% to a three-month low. On the other hand, industrial metals such as copper ($CPER), lithium (LIT), and uranium (URA) rallied on expectations of an economic recovery, while Treasuries were slightly weaker, with long-term rates edging higher.

Key Stock Movements

The undisputed headliner was SpaceX ($SPCX). It opened at $150, well above its IPO price, surged more than 20% intraday, and closed at $161.11, up 19% on its first day. With this, SpaceX rose to become the world's sixth-most-valuable company, according to MarketWatch and others (source). Semiconductors also continued their strength, with Arm ($ARM) up 11%, Seagate ($STX) up 7.2%, and Intel ($INTC) up 6.5%. However, as buying interest concentrated in SpaceX, other space-related names such as Rocket Lab came under profit-taking pressure (source).

On the other hand, Eli Lilly ($LLY), Palantir ($PLTR), ASML ($ASML), and Apple ($AAPL) declined on profit-taking, with some large-cap tech and healthcare names stepping back. As capital rotated between semiconductors and financials, the Magnificent Seven names were relatively sidelined.

Expert Commentary

> "The IPO pipeline is now turning into a flood, and frankly, this has been telegraphed for a while."

> — Mark Klein, CEO of Suro Capital

> "SpaceX's listing is, in a sense, a sector validation. It shows that private companies can also command rich valuations, prompting investors to turn their attention to lesser-known public space names."

> — Tony Bancroft, Portfolio Manager at Gabelli Funds

> "When SpaceX is valued this highly, companies in the same demand cycle, such as Rocket Lab or AST SpaceMobile, suddenly appear structurally undervalued."

> — Shay Boloor, Senior Market Strategist at Futurum Equities

Technical Signals & Outlook

This week's rebound saw rotation from semiconductors into financials and materials, while large-cap tech names such as Nvidia and Apple remained in the stochastic oversold zone and were sidelined in the rally. Financials broke through the upper Bollinger Band en masse, flashing overbought signals, making the sustainability of next week's rotation the key question.
