Positives
Simultaneous revenue and earnings beat: Revenue of $941.6 million (+6.6%) and adjusted EPS of $0.44 came in above expectations
Across-the-board full-year guidance raise: Lifted outlooks for core revenue, adjusted EBITDA, and adjusted EPS
Power Transmission segment strength: Revenue +7.0% (core +5.3%), adjusted EBITDA margin 22.9% (+60 bps)
Gates Industrial ($GTES) is a global manufacturer of fluid power and power transmission components serving industrial and consumer end markets. In Q2, net sales came in at $941.6 million, up 6.6% from $883.7 million a year earlier, while core sales (excluding FX and M&A effects) grew 4.9%. The result topped the $925 million revenue consensus that the market had penciled in.
Adjusted EPS rose to $0.44 from $0.39 a year ago, also clearing the $0.42 analyst estimate. Management said both revenue and EPS hit all-time highs. Adjusted EBITDA reached $211.4 million at a 22.5% margin — absolute profit grew while the margin held flat versus the prior year.
The Power Transmission segment led the way, with revenue of $588.5 million (+7.0%, core +5.3%), and its adjusted EBITDA margin expanded by 60 bps to 22.9%. Management pointed to improving order momentum globally as the basis for an industrial demand recovery driving second-half growth.
Negatives
Fluid Power margin compression: Segment adjusted EBITDA margin fell to 21.7%, down 120 bps YoY
Working capital pressure: H1 operating cash flow of $108.8 million was roughly flat YoY, with a notable rise in receivables
Narrower guidance range: Adjusted EBITDA top end trimmed from $835M to $830M, tightening the band
Overall results were strong, but the temperature gap across segments was clear. Fluid Power revenue rose to $353.1 million (+5.8%, core +4.2%), but adjusted EBITDA of $76.6 million was essentially flat, and the margin slipped 120 bps to 21.7% from 22.9% a year earlier. On an H1 basis as well, adjusted EBITDA in this segment declined 3.4% versus the prior year.
On the cash flow side, H1 cash provided by operating activities of $108.8 million was roughly in line with $110.3 million a year earlier. The backdrop appears to be that receivables grew significantly more than revenue, tying up working capital. Inventory also rose versus year-end, so it remains to be seen in the second half whether demand converts into cash as quickly as expected.
The full-year guidance was lifted broadly, but the adjusted EBITDA top end was lowered from $835 million to $830 million, narrowing the range. On a midpoint basis, that implies roughly a $10 million raise, but not raising the ceiling of the bullish scenario at the same time reads as a conservative trim that keeps cost and mix risks in mind.
What Management Said
CEO Ivo Jurek stressed that Q2 was a strong quarter that beat expectations, highlighting record revenue and EPS as well as improving global order momentum. He said the company is well positioned to capture the recovery in industrial demand.
At the same time, he raised 2026 guidance for revenue, profitability, and adjusted EPS, and projected second-half revenue growth to come in higher than the prior outlook. He also noted that the balance sheet is solid and capital allocation capacity is meaningful, sending the message that the earnings upgrade is not a one-off but is tied to second-half execution. The market appears to have received this tone as an "earnings beat + raised full-year bar" package.
Market Reaction and What to Watch Next
The after-hours move reflects more than a simple quarterly beat — it is closer to a "growth reconfirmation" combo, with adjusted EPS and revenue both exceeding expectations alongside a raised full-year outlook. Record revenue and profit, improving order momentum, and commentary on accelerating second-half growth layered together to give the industrial demand recovery narrative a near-term sentiment boost. That said, the Fluid Power margin deterioration and working capital burden remain tasks left for investors focused on earnings quality.
Watch whether second-half core revenue growth actually accelerates above the midpoint of the raised full-year range (2.5%–4.5%).
Track whether Fluid Power margins recover or if product/geographic mix headwinds persist.
Check whether revenue growth flows through to operating cash flow and free cash conversion (target of 90%+) rather than being absorbed by rising receivables and inventory.
